Seven company apps, each built from one message

We sent Whacka seven requests for company apps — five in Arabic dialects, one in English — one message each. Seven working apps came back, each in six to twelve minutes, with a login for every role and rules about who sees and approves what.

Then we tried to break them. For every app we created real accounts for each role — employee, manager, HR, accountant, storekeeper, parent, client — and checked, on the screens and by calling the server directly, whether each person could see and change only what the message said. Below: what each app does, a line from the message it came from, and what held. Every app has a demo you can open — tap «جرّب التطبيق بدون حساب» (or “Try it without an account”) and switch between roles; the sample data stays on your device.

Leave requests — «راحة», from Egyptian Arabic

Two departments and an HR officer. Employees request annual, casual or sick leave from their phones, the department manager approves, HR gives final approval, and the days come off the balance — 21 a year, never below zero.

From the message — “each employee sees only their own requests and balance, nothing about their colleagues.”
  • An employee can’t read colleagues’ requests or balances; a manager sees only their own department
  • Nobody approves their own request, and an approved request can’t be edited or deleted
  • Who approved and when is recorded by the system

Petty cash and expenses — «رصيدي», from Saudi Arabic

A contracting company. The accountant hands out floats, staff log expenses with a photo of the receipt, the manager approves, and anything of 500 riyals or more needs the accountant too before it comes off the float.

From the message — “an expense of 500 riyals or more needs the accountant after the manager.”
  • Staff see only their own expenses and float; managers see only their department
  • An employee can’t create an already-approved expense, and an approved one can’t be edited
  • The float never goes below zero

Employee files — «ملفات», from Kuwaiti Arabic

Salary, civil ID, passport and IBAN for HR; name, title, phone and start date for the department manager; and for each employee their own whole file, where they may change only their phone number. Every salary change is logged, and HR is reminded a month before a document expires.

From the message — “a department manager sees only their team’s name, title, phone and start date.”
  • A manager can’t see salaries, IDs, passports or IBANs — checked against the server, not just the screen
  • Document photos open only for HR and the owner

Attendance — «بصمة», from Yemeni Arabic

Two branches, a 200-metre range around each, the day starting at eight and lateness counted after 8:15. Forgotten punches go to the branch manager as correction requests, and HR exports the month to Excel.

From the message — “a punch counts only inside the branch, within 200 metres.”
  • A branch manager sees only their branch, an employee only their own record
  • The location is read from the employee’s phone — right for a team register, not a security device

Warehouse and purchasing — «مخزوننا», from Jordanian Arabic

A factory with two departments and a storekeeper. Department heads request materials, the storekeeper issues them once approved, purchase orders need the general manager, and low stock alerts the storekeeper and the owner. Whacka asked one question before building — how staff sign in — and got a one-line answer.

From the message — “every item keeps a movement log — who, when, how much — that nobody can edit.”
  • Only the storekeeper changes quantities, and stock never goes negative
  • Only the general manager approves purchase orders, which then lock
  • Ordinary staff never see cost prices

Agency projects — PulsePlan, from English

Projects with a PM, team members and a client contact. Team members move their own tasks and log hours, the PM approves each week, and the client follows progress and approves deliverables.

A client only sees their own project’s tasks and progress — never our internal comments, logged hours or the budget.

From the message
  • Team members and PMs see only their own projects
  • The client never sees hours, the budget or internal comments
  • Approved hours can’t be edited by anyone

A tutoring center — «مركزك», from Egyptian Arabic

Teachers with their own groups, a secretary who enrols students and records fees, and parents who should see their own child and nothing else. Teachers take attendance each session, post homework and lock weekly exam grades.

From the message — “a parent sees only their own child: absences, grades and the homework of their groups.”
  • A parent sees only their own child; a teacher only their own groups
  • Once an exam is closed, nobody can change its grades
  • Only the owner and the secretary change fees, and every change is recorded

What the seven have in common

  • One message each. No forms or templates — the full message is on each app’s page.
  • Logins you hand out. The owner creates a username and password for each person inside the app; nobody needs an email address.
  • Rules on the server. Who can see what is checked by the server, not only hidden on screen; in five of the seven, approvals and locks are too.
  • Any dialect. Egyptian, Saudi, Kuwaiti, Yemeni and Jordanian Arabic all produced working apps — right-to-left, on phones and computers.
  • Reports out. Monthly reports export to Excel.
